This WeekendSunday, June 28th You are invited to join in listening to this Sunday’s message “Four Forming Tragedies: Rejection” Four Forming Tragedies Phase 1: Abandonment Phase 2: Confined Phase 3: Forgotten Phase 4: Drought Genesis 37; 50:20
We continue to live through challenging times as the body of Christ with summer approaching and its offerings of a slower and more peaceful pace. Division and strife abound, calls for justice are ringing out around the world, and all while Covid-19 continues to wreak hardship and uncertainty. For the next four weeks in our Sunday messages, we will use the lens of Joseph's personal tragedies contained in the first book of the bible, Genesis. Joseph's life seems like one devastating tragedy after the next; but it remains an inspiring story of one who lived from a deeply formed identity in God, which enabled him to rise above and look for his purpose and mission in every situation.
Both the worship and message will be on our website Sunday morning. Alternatively, the worship will also be posted on Facebook live as it has been in the past.
If you miss the live stream it will be posted along with the sermon on our website at:

COVID -19 Update
Church over the Summer: Our current summer plan is to continue online worship and sermons throughout the summer. The Community Centre has decided to remain closed over the summer and so we will not be able to resume worship in person at the Community Centre. Catherine is also spearheading some creative ways to remain present in the Chandler community each week. We will be reassessing as new information comes out and keep you up to date as soon as we know more. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Pastor Steve on behalf of the Board.
Update on regulations around 10 people gathering while observing social distancing regulations.
"Effective Friday, June 12, 2020 at 12:01 a.m., the province will increase the limit on social gatherings from five to 10 people across the province, regardless of whether a region has moved to Stage 2."
As we responsibly work with new regulations there is now the possibility for groups of 10 desiring fellowship to meet together if they observe social distancing rules. At this time leadership is not prepared to coordinate these groups; however, if you choose to meet feel free to email me for some sample questions to help facilitate your gathering. Or, your group could choose to discuss the Questions for Reflection that are posted each week on the sermon page.

Thinking back to a few weeks ago when we heard from Joanna Loepp Thiessen and Catherine, if you were interested in any of the resources and recommendations she referred to, you are invited to contact Catherine at catherine@gatheringchurch.ca
Rightnow media has also curated some helpful resources "We pray that these resources do two things. First, that they challenge us to call racism, misuse of force by those in power, and systemic oppression a sin. Second, that these resources would point us to the hope and unity we have in Jesus Christ."

Congratulations to Isaac and Zoë Watson on their marriage this past week as well as Marcus and Margo Clemmer!
Kiran and kamala thank us for our prayers and continued support during this time in regards to their visas and working situations.
Pastor Steve will be taking vacation in the month of July from July 6-27th inclusive. We will continue to offer weekly sermons online from Pastor Catherine and guest speakers Clare Lebold and James Watson. Please direct pastoral care concerns to Catherine Gitzel. We regret to inform you that due to ongoing COVID concerns and restrictions, we will be cancelling our planned Church @ the Acres for August. While Hidden Acres is not open for large groups, it is available for camping. This would be a chance to support a wonderful ministry and enjoy the great outdoors.

On behalf of the Board of Directors I am very pleased to announce that Ruth Odia will be joining us as our Administrative Assistant on July 15. Ruth will be working closely with the church staff to coordinate and administrate the general ministries of The Gathering Church. Ruth has a solid background and experience in Administrative Management. To further complement this, Ruth has achieved her Masters in Administration and her Bachelor of Arts Degree – French/Sociology. Ruth has a long history with The Gathering and we are delighted to welcome her onto the staff team. We first met Ruth and her five children through Build A Lunch. Ruth and her children had recently moved into the Chandler-Mowat community. Each Wednesday morning we had the gift of getting to know Ruth and her wonderful kids. Our time on Wednesdays led Ruth and her family to make the decision to worship at The Gathering Church for a season. In this time Ruth’s remarkable faith and hope-filled spirit was a testimony to many of us. Her children brought much joy. As we got to know Ruth’s oldest daughter, Deborah, she seemed the perfect fit for the role of nursery assistant. Deborah has been a calm presence and a blessing to the littlest in our church and their families. As a faith communiy we joined with Ruth in her hopes of finding safe and secure housing for her family. This led Tyler Bowman, who was serving on Habitat for Humanity’s Board, to guide and support Ruth through the process of working with Habitat to build a home for her family. Many hands from the Gathering joined with Ruth in the building of that home and joined together in celebration to move the Odias into their new home. We welcome Ruth as she joins our staff team.

NEW! E-Transfer Option
Support the Gathering at this Important Time!
As we experience social distancing we are also distanced from our weekly reminders to support the church with your generous gifts. We believe in the call of gospel to reach out to our communities with love and care, and we are as committed as ever to find creative ways to do that in this season.
New this week, I wanted to highlight the ability to now donate via e-transfer using donations@gatheringchurch.ca.
We sincerely thank you for your ongoing support of our mission and ministry.
