Matthew 26:36-46
Praying in the Darkness of Covid

Sermon Overview:

We are in-between.
We call the in-between liminal space, and there is much to do in this space friends.

Let’s not waste it, it’s far too painful to learn nothing, to bury our heads in the sand and not notice what the Spirit is trying to speak to us while we are uniquely softened, humble, and open to ‘new’.

Jesus too had liminal spaces in His earthly ministry, we will look at one in this message.

Reflection Questions:

1.    What connects for you in Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemene?  When is the hardest time for you to remember to pray?  What helps keep you in the regular rhythm of prayer?

2.    How does the realization that God desires to speak with you, that He wants you to speak with Him effect the way you approach prayer?

3.    Prayer Exercise: Reread Matthew 26:36-46 with an eye and ear to the disciples experience.  What makes it so hard for us to follow Christ’s example and pray in times of darkness?  What does it feel like to have Jesus challenge us for falling asleep?  What do we think of when we hear those words ‘the Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak’?   With these questions in our thoughts, pray to the Father in your time of darkness.
