Like Christ in our Goodness

Call to Worship - Adapted from Psalm 34

Leader: Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed are those who take refuge in God.

People: Fear the Lord, you God’s holy people, For those who fear God lack nothing.

Leader: The lions may grow weak and hungry, But those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

People: The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

All: Let us worship God!

Sermon Overview

Goodness is one of those words from scripture that has kind of fallen out of common use.
We use the word good a lot, that pizza was good, the movie was really good, I feel good right now...
but goodness might sound a bit strange, like we need to translate it first.

In this fourth sermon in the series (Like) Christ, we zone in on God's goodness in us, and how we are called to reflect the goodness of God in our lives.

Benediction

The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.—Numbers 6:24–26

Reflection Questions:

1. Like Moses experienced on the mountain when God passed by in goodness, what would it be like to have God’s goodness pass by you?  What images come to mind, what might that goodness look like for you?

2.  As an image bearer of our Good Good Father, what is one fruitfulness of goodness that you could offer yourself? What is one thing that would make the biggest impact on yourself today, that you would be able to say, 'I was good to myself today'?

Taste the fruitfulness of goodness in joy.

3.  Who is someone else that you feel inspired to practice goodness to?  Visualize that person…what expression of goodness do you believe they would appreciate?

Share the fruitfulness of goodness in joy.
