Watering Seeds of Hope

Overview

By now, three weeks into our seedlings planting experience, we might be asking, ‘will the seed grow, will it be all that is hoped?’
We don't know with certainty, and let’s face it, we don’t always get certainty when it comes to fruitfulness, either in our plants or in our spiritual lives.
Despite a lack of certainty, we can choose to lean into hope.
We can choose to do our part by planting new seeds, fertilizing the soil of our hearts, and we can actively water the ground.  We can add love, effort, and care to our foundation of hope.
Spiritual seekers through history have found that time in God’s presence was akin to the refreshment of water, and essential to a life of peace.

Scripture

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” ~1 Corinthians 3:6

“Be patient, therefore, beloved until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains.” ~James 5:7

"As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”
These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng." ~Psalm 42:1-4

Reflection Questions

1. Have you been asking and seeking and thirsting after God’s presence lately?  If not, where is there room in your day to express your thirst for God’s living water?

2. Where in my life am I dry, baren, and thirsty in this season?

3. How could God satisfy that thirst?
